Kindy/Pre-Primary Induction Evening

The Kindy/Pre-Primary Induction Evening was a well attended event this year with many new families coming to the school next year.

CASTLETOWN INDUCTION EVENING

Thursday 21st November.

A well attended Induction Evening was held in the School staff room on Thursday 21st November for parents of students entering the school system in 2014 as a Kindy or Pre- primary student. 63 Kindy children start at Castletown PS next year.

The Principal, Mrs Grewar, welcomed the parents and introduced the early childhood teachers and speech pathologist, Mrs Kath Guest, to the audience.  The configuration of classes in the early childhood for next year is currently (depending on extra numbers) three Kindy groups, two Pre-Primary classes and two Pre/Year1 classes. The Kindy classes and one Pre-Primary class will be expecting to move to the new building at the beginning of the term. The builders are well ahead of schedule.

Ms Ellen Weston, our exchange teacher from Berkshire inEnglandfor 2014, will replace Mrs Florisson who will be teaching in her school inEngland. We wish Mrs Florisson a very happy year and look forward to her return in 2015 and the stories she will have to tell of teaching inEngland.

Mrs Kath Guest spoke on the importance of speech in early childhood years.  Mrs Beth Brown spoke about the Literacy Bag Project. This project enables our children to take home three books per week to be read by parents to their children. The aim of the project is to assist in instilling a love of books in children and to develop language and early concepts of reading. A delightful PowerPoint on “A Day in the Kindy” was presented by Miss Holthouse giving parents a clearer picture of what happens on a day to day basis in the class.  Mrs Weckert talked to the various items in the Kindy package which included school policies and procedures and informed parents of the transition dates for their children to attend the first school day.  Mrs Fetherston showed the parents the new school website and facebook page.  Mrs Florisson and Mrs Baldwin assisted parents in allocation of Kindy groups and days times for 2014.

Our Early Childhood President, Mrs Mel Ammon, addressed the parents on the functions and purposes of the Early Childhood parent group and explained the importance of the partnership with teachers and parents. The Early Childhood committee has been highly successful this year organising many events and raising a significant amount of funding for valuable resources for our children.

Castletown is delighted to welcome our new parents to the school.
